Who are we

The Smart Foundation (formlery knows as The X Foundation) was founded in August 2010 and formally registered as a Non Profit Entity early in February 2013. The Foundation exists to give underprivileged Umlazi children the key to a bright future by offering holistic educational bursaries to its beneficiaries. Beyond offering bursaries, we provide the support necessary for all of our beneficiaries to enjoy their schooling years.

We achieve this by providing educational bursaries to underprivileged children from the Umlazi community (for now) in grades 1-12. Each beneficiary is awarded with a bursary which includes:

• School fees for the entire year
• Summer and winter school uniform
• Monthly Food Parcels
• Stationery for the year



What we do

Our aim is to:

Provide our beneficiaries with access to education,

Equip all beneficiaries with the necessary educational resources for their studies and

Ensure that all our beneficiaries benefit from a holistic educational system.

Timeline

2010 – Establishment of the Smart Foundation

2013 – 70 beneficiaries

2015 – Awarded Best Philanthropy Award in Education by Inyathelo

2016 – Awarded Rising Shaper of the Year by the Institute of Justice and Reconciliation

2017 – Awarded Community Leadership by Gagasi FM

2020 – Name change to Smart Foundation in celebration of the decennial anniversary,
